Participants will analyze primary sources including images, short excerpts of the Plessy v. Ferguson and Brown v. Board of Education decisions, Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech and “Letter from Birmingham Jail.” They will evaluate the Civil Rights Movement with respect to constitutional principles of liberty and equality, as well as civic virtues such as perseverance and courage.  The presentation will also include a sample lesson from American Portraits.
